Para Equestrian

What is Para Equestrian?

Para Equestrian in Manitoba

There are 3 different streams of Para Equestrian:

  • Hippotherapy – therapeutic programs involving horses
  • Recreational Riding – recreation riding programs for persons with disabilities that may have therapeutic benefits but are recreation focused
  • Para Dressage – competitive athletic pathway that extends to national and international competitions, including the Paralympics

Therapeutic and Recreational Riding

Prairie Strides Inc. provides accessible horseback riding lessons for children aged five to fifteen. Classes run Monday or Wednesday evenings at West Wind Stables in Oak Bluff. There currently is a waitlist for programming. To add a child’s name to the list, visit www.prairiestrides.com and complete the application form under the Rider Tab.

All riders are responsible to provide their own ASTM certified helmet and riding boots (rubber boots work great!) Cost is $300 for a ten week session. Riders are eligible to ride for eight sessions following acceptance. We also request families help with fundraising. If funding is an issue, we are able to help families with grant/ bursary applications.
